THE CRAFT OF USING TOOLS WELL

Using tools well shows our character in caring for all things. 

I was working with Ben Doege while he was using a spatula that looked different than the ones we stock at the Shop. When I asked him about it, he mentioned it used to be his grandpa’s. While I lack the specific details, certain assumptions can be made of this story. 
This spatula has been used AND this spatula has been cared for.

A variety of products have touched this steel surface.

Many years have gone by since this was new.

There is this idea of a use-it-once and then throw-it-away culture we live in, and we all hate that.

We are made as humans to be resourceful and purpose-driven – not waste. 

If Ben was in a hurry this week, he would have left the spatula dirty with epoxy, only to throw it away and get a new one from the Shop. But that is not how Ben operates.

Taking good care of your tools shows a deeper level of respect – for your craft, and yourself. It’s about treating your tools like they matter – because they do.
